The Linde Center for Global Environmental Science at Caltech is hosting a workshop, "Southern Ocean Dynamics and Biogeochemistry" at the Keck Center on the campus of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA from February 2 to February 5, 2015.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together scientists from diverse disciplines who are actively working at the intersection of fluid dynamics and biogeochemistry with a focus on the Southern Ocean. Advances on this topic are expected to accelerate as numerical models extend to higher resolutions, novel observational tools including autonomous vehicles and Bio-Argo floats are deployed and data arising from a number of intensive field programs become available. The meeting aims to summarize our current understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes critical to governing Southern Ocean circulation and marine ecosystems, and then to identify key open questions where collaboration across multiple disciplines is needed.
